The stupa is built by king Valagamba in the 01st century AD massive ancient Buddhist monument in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. It was part of the huge monastery complex that functioned until the 11th century. The large Abhayagiri stupa served as the centerpiece of Abhayagiri Monastery.
The original shape of the stupa was a mound of grain and was built by King Valagambain his second reign (89-77 BC).
The highest of the stupa 75m tall but it was originally 122m tall. high and diameter of the bottom lofty terrace is 108m. The square enclosure is 10.5m. in height. There are 37 layers of bricks from the base to the top of Pesawa or lofty terrace. The Stupa covers 14 acres of land.
